I've always known who I worked under, or got to know them pretty fast. Don't know why Armada picked me to lead. I started thinking about how I don't know most of the people who've been here a while.
Haven't soldered anyone to anything in all my life, and I'm planning on keeping to that record.
[He's trying to sound comforting, but he's aware that he's probably not doing well on that front.]
Don't worry about your arm.
[That, at least, is safe. Carefully, taking his time, Garrus gets to work trying to make sure he doesn't wind up damaging her or the suit. She needs this, and it's really not like there are other quarians running around to make more. After a few seconds, he responds to the other with an attempt at a lighter tone as well.]
Wouldn't really be fair to stab him with a knife he made. And I don't hate him. Or even dislike him. So no shooting. I'll be all right, Tali.
[It's the opposite of hatred that's the problem. If Noh-Varr had mislead Garrus, or lead him on, or anything like that, Garrus could and probably would be angry. But he hadn't. Noh-Varr had been honest all along and it's Garrus that entirely messed everything up.]
[ In truth, Garrus is one of the people he's least worried about. Not for lack of caring, but because he's a capable guy and doesn't need a babysitter.
It doesn't mean he doesn't worry at all. ]
FROM: kirstein.jean@cdc.org You made it here okay, right?
I'd rather you didn't break that record, no. [There's a slight faintness to the retort this time, and she finds herself not looking at what he's doing, instead staring down at her lap, and the knife still balanced on her leg.]
Noh-Varr? [It's an effort to stay still and not jerk around to look at him.] Huh.
[It's not that she didn't see it - she just didn't know what to see. It's not like she and Garrus have had this discussion before now, and it's not like now is the right place to ask for gossip, even though some part of her dearly wants to. Tali's not experienced in this stuff, but even she knows the basics of when to keep her mouth shut.]
Okay. I won't shoot him. Or stab him. I won't even make his rover's haroomba perform elcor opera.
[He nods in confirmation, not repeating Noh-Varr's name right now. His subharmonics are already obvious enough to her. She doesn't need to deal with them faltering over that.
Garrus finishes soldering the tear before he looks up and gives her a little shrug.]
I wouldn't rule out the elcor opera just yet. Maybe put it off to the side for now.
[It's funny, at least, and that's something he could use.]
Mmn. He and one of his students both wear tight, green bodysuits. With bright orange leg-warmers. And a bright red headband like Kakashi-sensei's tied around their hips. And the flak jacket.
[ she'd mention the bowl cuts too, but she's not sure the horror of that would be something garrus would grasp. what with the not having hair. ]
[His mandibles flare out as he takes that in and tries to figure out how the end result would look. The answer? Horrible.]
I'm not exactly any good with fashion. But that sounds like a disaster. Unless it's a clever plot to blind their enemies with the side-effect of blinding their allies too.
[ Ah. There's a delay on Xion's end, too, as she soaks that in. ... it's not like she wasn't surrounded, back home, by people she couldn't trust. There was only Roxas, and Axel... no one else in the Organization exactly had her best interests in mind. Still, this is a jolt to her system. She's a little disappointed at herself ... for feeling disappointed. ]
FROM: xion@cdc.org
... I don't know what that means anymore. Can I trust you? Can I trust Guy? Can I even trust Roxas?
FROM: xion@cdc.org
... sorry. It's fine, you're right. I'll try to be careful.
Roxas is your friend, and friendship is nothing without trust. I think you can and should trust Roxas. And I'm biased, but I'd also say you can trust me.
FROM: vakarian.garrus@cdc.org
Greens should have some trust. We have to work as a team, and if you don't trust someone to have your back, that'll hinder you and them. And Guy seems nice, so I'd say don't distrust him.
FROM: vakarian.garrus@cdc.org
Basically, caution in all things here. Sorry, Xion.
You can ask it. Can't guarantee an answer, but I won't be offended by a question. Most questions. I'm sure there's gonna be exceptions, but I don't see it happening here.
It that, uh... flutter, flap thing-- [ she puts her hands on either side of her jaw and wiggles them in a rough approximation of his mandibles moving. ] Is that voluntary or involuntary?
[ this is probably not the kind of question he was expecting... ]
I guess it could be both too, like humans moving their facial muscles when laughing.
They don't teach Blues even basic xenobiology, do they. The movement of my mandibles is both. Most of the time you see me do it, it's involuntary. I've relaxed more than most turians, try to show more emotions because I'm around a lot of people who aren't turian back home and here, people who can't read my subharmonics.
[He's not annoyed, just a little surprised and amused by her wording choice.]
