Anyone can sound like they are. Talking a good game is pretty easy. It's the doing that's more of a challenge.
[Camp's in sight now, and Garrus repositions one of the guns he's got slung over his back. They can probably feel safe, now. Most of the windlife right next to camp had moved out or already been eaten.]
We'll see how passionate you stay, yeah? And how valiant I wind up being.
[ The expression on Red's face softens with those words, a feeling almost like a block in his chest coming shortly forward. Passionate, here, in this place - he doesn't have the confidence for that. What is there to be passionate about? But he doesn't want to say anything like that, beyond what the small silence between Garrus's last words and his own may say for him. ]
[Whatever direction she could have expected this conversation to go... this wasn't it. But considering how she remembers the Garrus of two - three, for him - years ago, and what he just had to tell her, even while dealing with his own pain... She's glad it was him to do it. If it had to be done, better to be like this.
She laughs, and finds herself coughing the last of it.] Damn it...
[She clears her throat, hard, as she flexes her arm gingerly - the seal holds, so that's something.] Yeah, it looks good. You've definitely got one loyal customer. One single customer.
[She quirks her head briefly, the smallest smile on her face.] Better get a second job.
And here I was hoping to be able to quit my day job.
[The cough is worrying, but Tali's an adult. If she needs medical attention, she knows to get it, and he'll trust her there. Most people he wouldn't. But the whole 'quarian' and 'weakened immune systems' deal tends to mean they're on the more responsible side of things when they get sick.]
Maybe we can make more suits, together. Tell people they're fashionable. Make some credits on the side.
[Garrus tucks away his tools and straightens up.]
And maybe that can happen after you get some rest. Don't want to let the cough get the better of you.
[ He examines it in Garrus's hold, then putting out his hand to take it if the turian will offer it up to him. ]
I think so. I just need it to sharpen the end of some wood into a point. [ A certain thick piece of wood, with Red looking across to the basket with the branch sticking out of it and its leaf and twigs. It appeared straight enough for what he wanted... ]
Yeah, go for it. I've got a couple of others, and worse comes to worse I just have to spend some time sharpening one. Don't have a whole lot of demands on my time.
[He follows Red's gaze, a little more curious now.]
Um... kind of like a spear I guess. [ Ding ding ding. There's a beat, and Red's head shifts slightly as if he's about to look Charizard's way but doesn't. ] We met a guy and we accidentally broke his, so... I wanted to make him a new one.
[ There's a low growl from Red's side, and Charizard looks away. Biggest guilty party. ]
[Garrus can barely keep back a snicker. The guilt practically radiates off Charizard with the way he's looking off to the side.]
Yeah, that's fine. I could even teach both of you how to sharpen something, after. In case one of you really wanted to make reparations. How about you take the knife, make the spear, give the guy it, and then come find me again and I'll teach you about getting blades sharp?
Okay, sure. [ That sounds like a good deal, but there's something curious there that he sure he heard that surprises him. ] But, you want to teach Charizard too?
[ He does have a pretty good grip for a dude with no thumbs, it's true. ]
[ He answers the door not more than a split second after Garrus knocks, looking every bit as anxious as his messages implied. ]
Thanks for coming.
[ He immediately pulls him inside, drawing him to the common area. There, covered in a heated blanket, is the large egg, as shiny and golden as the day it was received. The difference is, this time it's moving, rocking gently from side to side. ]
It looks like it's having a really hard time. What if it isn't strong enough?
[Garrus nods and kneels next to the egg, setting the meat to the side. His experience with hatching things is all hearsay, stories he's read, overheard talk amongst salarians, but he's gathered a few things through osmosis.]
Think it's pretty important it makes a go of it itself. It's gotta try. If the rocking slows, we'll help, but trying too early could damage its development.
[That, and anything used to break the egg could also hurt the dragon inside.]
We're gonna be here, making sure everything's warm, keeping an eye open, but we've also gotta be patient.
Quarian suits - function, fashion and never having to use the showers. Maybe I'll finally have some credits. [Her voice is a bit scratchy.
With luck, she can sleep it off - that and the headache coming up behind her temples. Without... well, it's a trip to the medical rover. This was never going to be easy.]
I'll be fine - I'll get some rest, drink fluids... The next time you're here, I'm sure it'll be fine.
[Because really? It's nice not eating alone - and quickly, like it's something furtive.]
I don't know. Something about training them right away to strive instead of give up early, if I was to guess. But dragons aren't really things we get told about in basic.
[Hell, he's pretty sure there aren't any actual dragons in his universe, period. The reapers converted some cycles ago and still use those, but what they once were has long since been lost.]
And yeah. I'd like tea.
[It won't really be good for him, but right now he can deal with possible slight discomfort to help Zuko stay calm and focused.]
