[He's not used to his bluffs being called. But since apparently Hinata actually wants to know:]
FROM: vakarian.garrus@cdc.org
Not really.
[He'd cared a great deal about Xion, and Lydia had become a friend. Now they're gone, and most of the recruits are sad about a guy who never gave a damn about them. Who told Reds not to warn people of what was coming, just days ago. Sure, better the devil you knew, and sure, Honey's a loose cannon, but they lost some good people.]

Always seems like there's someone on the killed list that I don't want to be there. Not like I want any of them who have been there on it. But there's always at least one name. Two, this time.
[He really doesn't know what he feels about Gliese anymore. There'd been a time when he'd felt closer, worried a little about her, but it seems that hadn't ever been mutual.]
She can be, when she wants to be. Which is most of the time.
[Honestly, he's been disappointed with how cold she's grown, but he doesn't want to talk about that. He'd made friendship overtures, she'd never responded, so... that was that. Probably easier that way, really.]
[ He shrugs helplessly, and his expression says he is, at least somewhat, rather easily. It takes him a moment to think of how to explain it, but he starts coolly: ]
In a manner of speaking. I am rather enamored with pursuits of revenge. It is a mixture of anger and despair that calls to me particularly strongly, to be quite honest. There is quite a bit of ritual to it, and I will not bore you with the details, but to summon a demon at all, you must have a great want for us. So revenge is a common motivation. When you cannot seize it with your own hands, you must grasp the hands of those who hold the power you seek.
[ He chuckles softly, but it's with a thoughtful and pensive look towards his glass. ]
So our Captain's situation struck me is familiar. Some grasp at a demon's outstretched hand. Perhaps she grasped at the CDC's. Either way, I think you would lose your soul eventually.
[That... makes a whole lot of sense, considering Sebastian's knowledge and background. When Garrus had sought revenge, what wouldn't he have done? If Shepard hadn't been there he's sure he would have killed Harkin even as the guy begged for mercy. And he's sure that if he'd gone the whole thing alone, he'd be lost too.
Gliese dwells on revenge. What if she's already lost to everything other than it? It would fit. It would fit a lot of things.]
The CDC is her demon. She made the deal, she's sold away everything, and she's still on that path.
[And there's no turning back. She's already come too far. It really makes a lot of sense.]
[There's not much boosting available when he tries to deal in mostly honesty. But he's on offer. It's what he can do. Her smile is small, his movements are stiff. They're both not running at full capacity here.]
[ He cants his head to the side lightly, a different sort of thoughtful gesture, though it's hard to guess what he might be thinking of. ]
It interested me, seeing this side of her, but it also gives me a better sense of how we fit into this ship, in a sense. If our leader pursues revenge, then every weakness amongst us is a setback to her goal, yes? So perhaps she would rather purge her first ship than see her pursuits go unrealized.
[ He shrugs. ]
Only a guess, of course, since it is harder to see how our Instructors fit in. I have not seen any sign that they are disloyal or even discontent, which would imply to me a particularly strong loyalty.
I'm playing to win. But I'm also playing to not lose me. I won't be able to go back to the home I'm trying to save, but at least I hope to still be able to live with myself. For whatever time I have left.
[He... hadn't thought he needed to say he was going to win this thing. Not considering his mission request, not considering how he's been trying to get somewhere in the ranking so he can actually do more.]
Is staying on Grey helping you win, though?
[Is anyone going to listen to her while she's on Grey? If she sees an opportunity and makes a move, who, out of her crew, would back her up? And why is Shepard still on Grey?]
There's the file on the cuffs. And then there's one other thing.

Before your time, last time we were on the Neheda, there was a shipping container that got on board the ship just before a bunch of people started dying mysteriously and getting sick.
FROM: vakarian.garrus@cdc.org
Parts of it were missing initially, found later. One set of tags had IPS on it. Think it's a frame job, though.
FROM: vakarian.garrus@cdc.org
We patrolled the halls the pieces were found in. We were working hard to keep the area more secure. And then they just show up later? And who got the container onboard in the first place?
FROM: vakarian.garrus@cdc.org
But I might as well give you all I've got, even when I think that part's a red fish.
You ask what I plan to do and then get after me for answering mildly? They know I'm watching. They know half of Green's watching, d'Artagnan. We're sorted onto teams for a reason.
[They so know.]
Green's the passionate sort, generally speaking. The more do-good mix. The ones that are gonna get worked up. Funny how they do this when our Instructor isn't around.
Her name was Telumi Kallig. She was a friend of mine, too. A good one. I had planned to teach her to swim, but never had the chance. She had a difficult life, the facial tattoos to tell the story.
FROM: bellic.niko@cdc.org
We ended up talking about Russian prison tattoos because of it. The furball I had and hers got along.
FROM: bellic.niko@cdc.org
I hope she's alright.

With some of the things that happened, let's talk sometime.
[Joker waves him off, then stacks up the rest of the medical supplies on the counter. Anders wants his box back at some point, and apparently Joker's going to have to brave the mighty blond bitchface at least once more today.]
Don't mention it, Vakarian. Just buy me a beer or something later.
[All debts to Joker could be easily repaid with sufficient quantities of alcohol.]
Sure, sure. Just know that I won't judge you too much when you come back to me all sad-faced and needing advice because something got lost in translation. Which happens.
[Like when he'd accidentally talked about pulling out when he meant to refer to how he'd saved Noh-Varr's life. Oops.]
Then again. Maybe the new Shadow Broker will help you out in the future.
[And now he feels a little stupid for something himself. But he's now writing it off as that he just felt safe around Tali. That they could be normal people and not terrible genocidal freaks together.]
Yeah. Getting something on a ship isn't easy. I've been at both ends, on the ship, and on the station. There's paperwork. Customs. Regulations. Taxes. And the crate was large.
FROM: vakarian.garrus@cdc.org
That takes knowing the system, that takes being known to people working on cargo either planetside or shipside. You've gotta have some sweet connections for that.
[Sweet is deliberate. He's felt as Crichton did regarding Honey all along, and it's no surprise she killed to work her way up. It would have been a great chance to destabilize the crew and find weaker spots.]
I JUST CHECKED. BULBASAUR IS BULBASAUR IN SPANISH hell yes
