It's got notes from the mapping teams, but it's not exactly precise. And you can go anywhere, but I wouldn't really suggest it. You should have already run into the neraki, yeah? They've got scattered tribes all over and they're not really fans of us. Plus you can see what animals aren't friendly from the list.
If you wanna go somewhere, I'd suggest asking an instructor.
[There's a beat before Garrus tilts his head, contemplating getting a hold of an instructor.]
Haven't... actually seen Armada around today. Or a couple of days. So maybe go with asking Neheda or Gliese.
[ Sure, things might not be friendly, but... Red can't argue about the neraki though, and he's sure that he wouldn't want to bump into them. ]
Okay... [ Still he looks thoughtful, eyeing the map Garrus brought up. ] Even if I want to go outside the camp to look for food? Charizard will get hungry.
Are there any bags or baskets we could take? [ Wait, let him bring up a hand and poke a finger against the palm as he thinks. ] So we can get food, sticks... but leave the trees alone.
Something that didn't make any sense. Sorry. Supposed to turn left for something sometime, no idea what it's related to, pretty sure I was being messed with.

But if the right thing to do is to be honest and give Jean a shot, that'd be by extension... Yeah, never mind. I'm pushing the metaphor too hard. Trying to make it fit.

Point still remains that you kissed Jean. Willingly.
[She tries, with everything she's got, to focus on what Garrus is saying - on these people she doesn't know, but wants to commit to memory because she will - even though it's hard to drag her thoughts away from admirals and treason and geth. If it had been most other people, maybe she wouldn't have - she'd have wallowed in misery and told herself she deserved to feel sorry for herself just this once.
But he's trying, and that makes her want to try. Want to - not feel like she has to.]
That sounds you were making a really bad joke. Two krogan and a merc walk into a bar and do shots. No survivors.
[Her face twists wryly.] As long as somebody got more drunk than I did, though, I might be able to live it down.
The silence is awkward and ugly, threatening to choke him with how thick it is. When he starts to speak, it's a sudden rush of words, and he almost chokes on them.] I was thirteen. Bertolt was twelve, so was Annie. We had our mission. Infiltrate the walls and wipe them out from the inside.
[His knuckles are white and his fists tremble.]
Bertolt kicked open a hole from the outside. I destroyed the second gate. There was nothing stopping the titans from getting in and...
[He jerks a little, as though to dodge the memory.] There was no way they could evacuate all of the people past the second wall
[Young. Very young. Extremely young to be sent to ensure the death of a whole bunch of people. Second wall suggests some sort of layered city, too. And Reiner's not saying evacuate all of the soldiers, he's saying people.
Garrus is quiet for a moment. He likes humanity. Its got its flaws like any species does, but the galaxy would be an emptier place without humans running around. Then again, any species sending in twelve and thirteen-year-olds is probably desperate.]
Your peoples are at war, from what I've gathered. Humanity and... titans?
[Reiner's file doesn't say a species. Garrus had double-checked that while waiting for the guy. The safest guess is titans, from the bits he's heard from people from their world, but Reiner's just said 'the titans' as if he doesn't completely associate with them. Maybe Garrus is reading too much into the tense words.]
And breathe, Reiner. Please.
[He's being told for a reason. It's not just because Garrus asked, because Reiner could have said no. There's probably something the young man is seeking, too.]
My people fought with humanity once too. About forty years ago. Fighting happens, sometimes, when you get a couple of different species together.
[Garrus chuckles before nodding. The boy's rather young, and that's not always a bad thing.]
Alchemy, yeah. I think it could. So you could bring him some first, and then see what you can get for charizard and yourself and possibly others. And let me know if you wind up needing a hand.
[Red might be able to adapt. Garrus is glad of this.]
Alright. Is there a place I can find you if I need you? Um, [ And he looks around. ] but you could probably be anywhere at any time, huh... I remember the days last forever here.
[That's all he'll say on the matter, even if pressed. His head hurts, and he sucks in a slow, shaky sort of breath when Garrus tells him to. He doesn't want to think about this. He doesn't want to live knowing what he's done, but he can't give up now, not after he's come so far. His nails bite into his skin in a futile attempt to distract himself.
Garrus' words help. Reiner doesn't say anything at first, forcing his mind to wrap around that knowledge. Fighting...]
This isn't a fight. It's an extermination. Or it was.
[Not titans. A third species? But the lack of elaboration speaks as much as words would - Reiner doesn't want to answer that question. Not yet, at least.
The young man's knuckles are going white as he digs his nails in, and the breath definitely isn't steady. Reiner isn't all right with what had happened. Garrus doesn't know that he can chalk it up to regret, though, no matter how much he'd like to. The last two words make his heart seize up, though.]
Was.
[If the wiping out is over, then Jean's dead. Mikasa's dead. Eren, Erwin, Levi, all of the ones he's met here are gone, but Jean is the one that really hurts. Garrus doesn't want to ask for clarification, doesn't want to know for sure that one of his young is lost due to the actions of another.
Garrus' subharmonics aren't completely steady as he speaks again. They're a little shaky, a little weighed down. Roxas is dead, Xion is probably dead, Jean... Every name on that list makes him realize that he can only keep them safe here.]
Yeah, you're good. He got drunk, went into one of the bathrooms, turned on the shower, and sat in it mumbling for hours. You just made engine noises and either thought you got an omnitattoo or did. Not... completely sure.
[He hadn't had a chance to ask. Or even the thought to ask. They'd pretty much geared up and gone the morning after, once Miranda's hair had been done and everyone found out that somehow stg members were skilled enough to sneak past each and every one of them. That had been a little disconcerting.]
And hopefully our two krogan, and our merc, and everyone else, walk into this fight and back out of it. And it's the reapers who don't survive.
[He takes it and takes a few steps back so he can get a good picture. He frames it so Garrus can have the best copy he can manage. Then he walks around to a 1/3 angle, and takes yet another, and then another.]
[He hands the camera back to Garrus to see if there are any others he would like taken.]
[The hint is lost on the boy, but maybe it's better that way. Garrus nods as Red starts reading the names.]
You'll get to know the people. The list'll seem less daunting, then.
[And more sad, because as much as Garrus wants to prevent further deaths, he doesn't know that their efforts will succeed. And there will almost definitely be more transfers, too.]
[He scrolls through the pictures before attaching the three best to a message sent directly to Niko.]
And there. Now we've got some specs on the blackglass, from Samus Aran and myself, and they should be workable. Used the book we got, her suit, my tool, and some calculations.
