Showering was the first thing I did when I got here. The shower rover's back, so that might mean less of a wait for you. Don't know who you have in your rover; I've got three people with long hair.

And once we got done with the butterflies things were easier. Still had people sick, but it wasn't as bad as sharks, in my opinion.
Biting, poisonous, sharp-winged, carnivorous butterflies. Swarms. Sniping them didn't work well, but the gauntlet did. Calling it a bugzapper now. Definitely missed the landsharks, not the cold.
I've always known who I worked under, or got to know them pretty fast. Don't know why Armada picked me to lead. I started thinking about how I don't know most of the people who've been here a while.
Human supremacist from my universe. Killed one of the Normandy's crew. And is part of the group responsible for making the survival of every species in the galaxy a lot more difficult.

It's not like we have great chances to win to start with. But he made them worse, for humans and non-humans alike, all in the name of trying to make the galaxy human-ruled.

I helped kill him back home. Really not glad he didn't stay dead.

Got a species called reapers back home. Every 50 thousand years or so, they return to our galaxy and harvest spaceflight-capable species.
FROM: vakarian.garrus@cdc.org
Living captives get indoctrinated, brainwashed into empty shells of themselves who serve only to follow reaper orders. The process can be fast or slow, depending on how it's done.
FROM: vakarian.garrus@cdc.org
The dead get turned into genetic matter to build more reaper ships. Each reaper ship is a species that got wiped out millions of years ago. And anything the indoctrinated know, the reapers know.
FROM: vakarian.garrus@cdc.org
Cerberus decided it wanted troops like that. Unresponsive to pain, mindless, always under control. And they wound up indoctrinating themselves in the process.
FROM: vakarian.garrus@cdc.org
Nearly done with the history lesson, sorry. Previous cycles were building a weapon to destroy the reapers, never finishing it in time. We found out where info on the last piece we needed was. Went.
FROM: vakarian.garrus@cdc.org
An indoctrinated Kai Leng was there. He's probably in the early stages of indoc. already. We had to fight him and the reaper forces swarming the planet: former humans, turians, asari, etc.
FROM: vakarian.garrus@cdc.org
Cerberus, and the reapers, got the info. And the world. Liara's homeworld fell to the reapers that day. And they also grabbed the last piece and stationed it above Earth, before reinforcing there.
FROM: vakarian.garrus@cdc.org
There's plenty more that they've done that's sabotaged everyone's chances of survival. But that's what could end our hopes, right there.
[ Give him a minute, Garrus. That's a lot, and many of those terms are new to him. Also, there's the fact that the scale of all of this is so grand. Kai Leng is no ordinary zealot, it seems. ]
FROM: dartagnan@cdc.org
Wait, so. You're saying he's actually a servant of these creatures who want to kill you all, these Reapers? And he's being controlled by them now?
FROM: dartagnan@cdc.org
What does that mean, Garrus? Are the Reapers more powerful than the CDC?
He'll brainwashed enough to be one, yeah. All of Cerberus will be. Chances are it's already started, but I'm not sure. Even if it hasn't, he's still a hate-filled terrorist murdering piece of shit.
FROM: vakarian.garrus@cdc.org
I don't know who is more powerful. Both have powerful ships. It'd probably come down to numbers - how many ships the CDC has versus how many the reapers do.
FROM: vakarian.garrus@cdc.org
The CDC can recruit more people, but the reapers can then turn a portion of those people into shells for their own use, so that's not gonna make a difference.

You can’t touch him here. You know that. It’s like Roxas and Ansem, you’ve got to leave him alone. No matter what he deserves.
FROM: dartagnan@cdc.org
But are we any better? He worked for the Reapers, now he works for the CDC. We work for the CDC. Every planet we go to, that’s what they’ll say about us. We’ll be the murderers.
I know. That's why neither of us have shot the other yet. Though I did tell him where my bullet goes through his brain.
FROM: vakarian.garrus@cdc.org
And we're not doing this out of hatred. We're not approaching these species with a sense of superiority, or the attitude that this is how things should be. That's why we're better.

You said it yourself. It's about love. We're driven by love for our worlds. He's driven by hate for mine and disdain for every other one we land on.

Thanks.

Tiring, but we survived. They stopped chasing us once we reached the trees. I'll feel better once I've had a shower.

Biting, poisonous, sharp-winged, carnivorous butterflies. Swarms. Sniping them didn't work well, but the gauntlet did. Calling it a bugzapper now. Definitely missed the landsharks, not the cold.

So don't trust the butterflies. I suppose that's good to know. Are you sure you're all right?

Lost some blood and had to deal with crossing a canal, got one more thing to figure out. Maybe two.
no subject
What do you mean? I thought you were safely in camp.
no subject
I'm safely in camp, yeah. As safe as camp will be, considering Ajna. But there's a pair of things I haven't been thinking about, been putting off.

You feel like you know Armada at all?

FROM: dartagnan@cdc.org
I wouldn't claim to. What I know makes me glad to call him my Instructor, rather than the others. I trust his word.
Why?

I've always known who I worked under, or got to know them pretty fast. Don't know why Armada picked me to lead. I started thinking about how I don't know most of the people who've been here a while.

Maybe you should ask him. I did. It's not too late to get to know people, Garrus.
no subject
Yeah, gonna give it a try. Shouldn't hurt, right?
no subject
Asking him, or getting to know people?
no subject
The former. Been working on the latter already. For the most part it's gone well.

Except when it gets confusing. Don't think I'll ever figure out what Wade Wilson is about.

You know you aren't expected to get along with everyone, don't you?

That's good, considering the fact that if I ever get the chance to let something eat Kai Leng, I'll be thinking long and hard before saving him.

Kai Leng? He's Athos' roommate. I didn't like him, either.
