Not that one. But a lot of the signs are in English, a language from Earth I've been learning. Seemed like it would be useful. Also. Good to notice things that are good and bad. Nothing's gonna be 100% one way.
[He heads into the store, poking his head around the corner as if something other than creepy kids might be lurking. It's just kids.]
If you want, I can work with you on it. Not gonna be the best teacher since I'm still learning myself, and you might be getting tired of me teaching you before long. But the offer's there.
[Guns and language. He's becoming something of a well-rounded teacher. Almost.]
[ When Garrus goes in first, Red turns to Charizard to get him to wait outside by the doorway, a nod shared before the trainer catches up the few steps over to the turian. It's not enough to miss any of what he says, which- ]
Sure! [ receives a rather positive response. ] Shouldn't I be the one worried about you getting tired of teaching me? I can't offer a lot back unless you want to hear about pokémon or do practices with Charizard.
[Garrus chuckles as he starts perusing the shelves.]
I like teaching. Gives a break from all the other stuff we're doing here. Makes me feel like I'm doing some building on top of all the destroying.
[He picks up one item and turns it over in his hands, wondering if he should just scan it and know what it is, or if he should guess off the pictures.]
Plus you're not a bad student. If you were, yeah, I might get tired. There's some who just don't wanna learn, think they know everything. Can't teach them. You? You're good. Here, catch.
[The lightweight mystery object gets tossed in Red's direction playfully. Sure, this place is going to go wrong somehow, they'll probably be under attack soon enough, but for now, they can relax some.]
[ There's a creeping good feeling that comes from that compliment, gone when the item gets chucked and he goes reaching for it with a noise escaping his throat -- but there's no need for worry, and there, with it in his hands being turned to observe for himself, that chuffed feeling returns.
He looks over his shoulder, spotting the baskets at the corner near the entrance that he thought might exist and backtracks enough to plop the object in and to grab the handles instead, returning back over to Garrus, eye half on the shelf, but a question in mind he wants to ask first before focusing on why they came into the store in the first place. ]
Do you think one more study partner will be okay? There's a girl I know, Annie - she joined the crew the same time as me. We talked about learning English back at the other place. [ He pauses, then, with assurance in his voice, ] I'm sure she'll make a good student too. She recognises the characters already, more than I do.
[Annie. There's a very, very short beat before Garrus nods. He can't take sides in a war on a world that's not his own. Or maybe he can, and he can do more for Jean than he ever does for Annie, but he'd cared about Reiner too. It's all too complicated and Garrus has to focus on here.]
More heads when trying to learn can only be good. That way if I say something wrong, there's a higher chance we're gonna catch it. She can join.
[Garrus picks up something else and turns it over, again not getting any idea about what it's for from the pictures, before adding it to the basket. It's not like he's really studying it, though. Everyone he's worked with while learning English before is gone. Javik had dumped a lot into his head, that'd given him a head start, but Aeryn's gone, others have slipped away. He almost doesn't want to ask for another tutor, but if he's going to be helping to teach two people, he'll need it.]
Eventually we'll figure the language out. Only a matter of time, yeah?
[ Any internal conflict going on, Red doesn't notice, the nod coming too quickly for him to suspect a thing. He watches the next tin fall in, lifting it to take a peek at the labelling but putting it down again. They'll figure out whatever it is when they do. ]
Mm. I'll send her a message and let you know what she says. [ Meanwhile, there's tins and more tins on this side of the shelf. While Garrus browses them, Red decides to slip a little further on ahead to the refrigerator section covered by plastic blinds to keep some of the cold air in. Milks, cheeses, spreads, juices, salad and pasta containers and rows of sandwiches with all varieties, and then some more. He picks one of the sandwiches up, angling his head in to look between at the cut for what it might be, then holds it for Garrus to see. ]
How about sandwiches? There's some other foods here and drinks.
Any of them got a blue D on them? Looks like, [he draws the symbol in the air,] this.
[That means he can eat them. There isn't any worry in his voice, though, as he's already located some food on this station. Far more than on the last, even. The situation is stable for now and Garrus is far less stressed because of this.
In the meantime, he's found a fan and he's opened it up to start fanning himself, mandibles flaring outward in amusement. Sure, the climate's not hot. But it's a pretty, lacy fan and he thinks he probably looks stupid doing this, which makes it fun.]
Even if they don't, toss a few in. Can't hurt to have food on hand. Want a fan? There's all sorts of colors. We could go with red to be matching, green to be funny, blue to make no sense at all...
[ A blue 'D'? With the character made in the air, Red investigate the shelves once more (and the sandwich in his hand), spotting a few of the ones that he thinks Garrus must mean, and slipping them into the basket.
...And then meeting an eyeful of the sight of one turian with a beautiful lacy fan, and don't mind the scoff that comes from Red, who forgets about the food meanwhile for coming up to check out the collection of the most fanciful fans around. ]
What, blue's not your colour? I think it matches your eyes. [ A grin, and he flicks a look back to the collection. ] I dunno, though... the blue or red teams might think you're making fun of them if they see you with their colours.
