[After a moment, Garrus puts a gentle arm around Xion's shoulders.]
Finding a balance, finding a way to not be scared, those are tricky things. They're things that come with experience and practice and work. And accepting that there's a lot you don't know is a good first step. It's one everyone has to take.
[She's so small. Intellectually he knows it, but when she talks like this and is close to him, he's reminded of the fact. It almost feels like she could vanish in the blink of an eye, and that worries him a little.]
You'll learn. One step at a time. And you've got people who are here to help you be stronger. Emotionally, by reaching out to them, and physically with training. You're not alone, Xion.
[ After sending out messages to the relevant individuals to prepare for the trip out (or as best as Red can figure to), the next day comes and a quick trip to the beach is taken before Red sends out the one to Garrus confirming they can go through with a food gathering trip out, and they both agree to meet near one of the outposts.
Red gets there first, and possibly before noticing the boy Garrus will spot first a rather boldly orange winged creature beside him, standing at around six feet with its head bent over the boy's shoulder as it watches him engrossed in his blackglass, a long thick tail with a fire upon the tip curled to the front of its body, both to keep his trainer warm and to make it obvious its there to any passerbys.
A wooden basket about the same height as Red - but the width of the creature's body - sits nearby as well crafted by Alphonse Elric's alchemy, and other than that a standard CDC backpack is slung on the boy's shoulders, looking rather flat. ]
[That's... well. That's definitely a small dragon. And its tail is definitely on fire. Garrus is a little more impressed with it at first glance than by Arcanine, but he'll never tell Green that. What it can do on the field will be the real test.
He's got a backpack as well, empty and ready to be filled, as well as a few guns strapped to his back and his crossbow.]
Hey, Red. Hope you haven't been waiting long. Let's, if this is all?
[He doesn't know if there are others invited, but if there aren't, Garrus will be ready to head out and start looking.]
[ It's Charizard's head turning at the approach of Garrus that alerts Red to their company, and the kid smiles at the sight of the guy - a big difference from their meeting yesterday - before he turns to his companion. ] It's okay, that's Garrus!
[ There's a fondness in his voice, and he lets the blackfall fall to his side as he steps away to meet the other. ]
Yeah, this is all! I've got everything. [ Being near the basket, he places a hand on the rim. ] Alphonse made it pretty big for us, so Charizard's going to have to walk with us and carry it. He's my pokémon, by the way.
[ He gestures over to Charizard, figuring that Garrus would've already guessed but wanting to give the introduction. The pokémon gives a huff, his natural appearance looking not the most friendly, but it's noticeably relaxed around the eyes than what it could possibly be. ]
I figured we could see how far we can go out. If everyone's going out for food, there's probably less near the camp.
[This time when he holds out his hand, it's solidarity he's offering, not comfort.]
We'll use what we get here, turn the war around even though we're not present. Give them every advantage possible, and it'll be things the Reapers never see coming. And as far as here goes, we've got each other.
[Garrus nods a greeting to the pokemon, feeling a bit silly. There's clear intelligence there, but it isn't to the level of Temeraire, or even 1. It's a trained, powerful pet. Green may be cool with Arcanine doing most of the work, but in Garrus' mind it's Red and Green who are his teammates, not Arcanine or Charizard.]
Makes sense to go out some, but I don't wanna go too far. We're Green. If something happens at camp, we're needed. That's our responsibility.
[Especially with him being a senior recruit. He starts walking as he continues talking.]
Don't wanna range out more than a half-hour. That'll already give us a slow response time if something happens and we're called.
Yeah, whatever to you too!! [ You can't out-whatever a teenage girl, Garrus. ]

Fine, how about this? The day Jean catches my eye or whatever is the day I've officially gone crazy. Seriously, just push me off a rover and put me out of my misery.
FROM: yamanaka.ino@cdc.org
And for the record, there is nobody else here to catch my eye either because the boys here suck!
[ Red's listening, quickly motioning as Garrus starts walking for Charizard to pick up the basket, which he grabs and holds out in front of himself. It's a silly-looking thing, but pokémon will keep it up, joining at Red's free side while the boy catches up to be by Garrus's. ]
R-right... [ Admittedly, Red hadn't been thinking at all about any duty of being a Green, vastly more interested in going other and food gathering, and it's strange to even think now that he has any obligation like that. ]
But I told them we'd get food for everyone, and they sounded okay with that. Isn't that important too? And if you want, we can drop the basket and Charizard could get us back quickly. [ Here, he gives Garrus a quick look up and down. ] He should be able to carry the both of us.
If they're not attractive to you that's fine. Thought I'd ask. Especially because we're of differing opinions when it comes to the young men here.
FROM: vakarian.garrus@cdc.org
Think there are a bunch here with potential. Bunch of young women with potential too. But if you're gonna judge them all on who has the best hair, then you're left with you and Noh-Varr.
Are you serious right now? Jean is Jean, which means he's a complete idiot, Zuko left his ex-girlfriend in prison that one time, Ichigo wouldn't know what to say to a girl if she hit him in the face,

Green Oak apparently has some sort of dog thing??? So he probably totally smells like it, Eren is somehow even more oblivious than Jean, I don't know Ferdinand or anything but based on his file alone

he's at least like 300 hundred years old, which is super weird, and I don't know Guy either but this literally says he's scared of women.
Don't be insulting. Of course she didn't want to kill me. But we don't know the same would be true of Hibari. That's the point I'm making! I'm afraid if he pushes his luck she won't hold back.
I've got a little faith in her, that she's got a high tolerance. There is a line, yeah. I don't think challenging her to a fight, with the motivation he had, is crossing it. I think as long as he manages some respect, he should be all right.
[ Vriska huffs through her nose and reaches up with both hands to tug on a rope of her hair. Vriska's body language is very easy to read, generally. She gestures broadly and often, and will often telegraph how she feels just as clearly with her movements as with her tone and expression. But it's not often that she gives such a clear and open display of anxiety.
Tug tug. ]
Yeah, whatever. [ Her mouth works and she lets go of her hair, tossing it back over her shoulder instead. ] That's just part of why he needs me around! To help make sure he doesn't get ground into a gross, sticky pulp.
[It's a young gesture, and a little endearing. She really gives a damn about Hibari, and Garrus wonders if she's aware of that. If Hibari is, either. Sometimes these things sneak up on you. He would know.
But he doesn't say that, because he doesn't want to make Vriska angry.]
So you'll keep him from being too rash, and he'll keep you from being too rash? Sounds like a good plan, actually. Balancing. You're lucky to have that. So is he.
Uuuuuuuugh. [ Vriska lets her head fall back on her shoulders as she groans, and when she lifts it again she's actually a little blue in the face. Yeah, she's got problems. ]
Reciprocity and equality in a relationship? Gross.
[ Now Vriska actually pauses, seeming to consider him all over again ... and she actually has the grace to look sheepish. ]
All things considered, this is probably not what you want to be talking about right now. And you're talking about it anyway! You're a good guy, Garrus. Thanks.
