A bit of both. My people value strength and survival. But the Empire I serve has no place for those who can't hold their own. Either you do your part or you die. I'm not terribly keen on dying.
Only the strong survive the Empire. And then the strongest are killed in the power struggle. A grey area for these people would force them to hold compassion for anyone but themselves.
Runs it. The Empire is a hierarchy and although the Emperor is above all else, powerful, ruthless, and heartless Force users (ie Sith) pull all of the important strings.
FROM: kallig.telumi@cdc.org
Believe me, the compassion here is overwhelming in comparison to the Empire. The unit leaders seem to actually care about those in their charge.
Sounds like what you really need is a new Emperor. And then a new way of doing things in general.
FROM: vakarian.garrus@cdc.org
But it's true that a lot of the unit leads are good people. All the ones I know who landed the position are, or are in my opinion. Then again, you're Orange. Orange is pretty nice, generally speaking.
I do quite like my teammates and leaders so far. But the Sith will never change. We will always be heartless and thirsty for power, though a thousand new Emperors.
That's an accident. The destroying planets thing. Didn't really get a full briefing. And if the people in charge don't change, then you change the people in charge.
In order to change the people in charge, the people doing the changing have to have power. Which they don't, because they've never been allowed to have any.
[It's stressful to not be able to do much about this mess, to be positioned and mostly waiting, but at least he's where he can keep an eye on some people he gives a care about. Not enough of them, but some.
He'll be near the door when she arrives, keeping an eye on things and waiting for the next stage of hell to break through.]
[ she shows up not much after he does, in full sith attire if only because she trusts it to keep her safe from any mysterious threats better than cdc gear alone can. this hardly feels like a force threat, but still, better to be prepared in what you know. usually the robes and countenance combine to make her look suitably larger than she actually is, but when she pauses a moment to look around before moving over to a turian, there's no denying her diminutive stature. ]
Vakarian?
[ kallig's guess, from his file. but if he has a doppleganger on board, she wouldn't trust herself to determine identifying turian markings at first glance. ]
[He's in full armor, which is pretty common anyway for him, but it also means he's not at all surprised to see someone else in full gear. Garrus nods to her.]
Yeah. And you're Kallig?
[Because he was expecting her. Otherwise, he wouldn't be sure who was under all of that.]
Yes. [ some part of her wants to correct, insist on the lord, but it seems nitpicky and, moreover, pointless here. a lord of the sith empire, willingly volunteering her time and her talents to people she doesn't know, doesn't even necessarily trust
yeah, this is her trying to make herself look a little taller as she looks up at garrus. (it's not working.) ]
I trust nothing new has developed in the last ten minutes?

Hold their own. I see. Sounds pretty black-and-white.

You think compassion's a weakness, then? Or is it just your empire that does?
no subject
The Empire. The Sith Order in general. It's an appearance I've had to keep up to survive.

The CDC is a refreshing change.

The CDC isn't big on compassion, half the time. But a lot of the recruits are, at least. What's the Sith Order do for the Empire?

All Empires that keep their strength by preying on the weaker fall. It's the ones that understand all of their people are their strength that last.
FROM: vakarian.garrus@cdc.org
They'll change, or they'll be lost to history.
no subject
Of course all their people are their strength. Most of those who aren't Sith are slaves or cannon fodder. They have their place.
no subject
Yeah, not like that. No one should be enslaved or cannon fodder. Nobody. That's not the way to truly serve, and government needs to serve.
no subject
Governments serve themselves. To believe otherwise would be deluding yourself.
no subject
Don't let your limited experiences hold you back. My people's government knows where their duty lies, knows what it takes to serve their people.

Lot of different universes and peoples out there. Lot of different possibilities.

Changing to a soft system like that would require the Sith giving up their power. And we never would.
no subject
It's hardly soft. We're the military might of our galaxy and we've got the needs of the whole in mind because that's what's gotten us here.
no subject
Military might getting you to the point of destroying planets sounds exactly like something the Empire would do.
FROM: kallig.telumi@cdc.org
You'll have to forgive my callousness, Vakarian. In my experience, people in charge don't change.

In order to change the people in charge, the people doing the changing have to have power. Which they don't, because they've never been allowed to have any.
no subject
It all comes down to how much a change is worth it to people. Eventually the downtrodden do get angry, and a lot of them die, but things change.
no subject
The downtrodden have to climb up a lot of corpses in order to buy that change and it can take a while to pile them.
FROM: kallig.telumi@cdc.org
But we have more pressing matters at hand. I will see you in Medical.
no subject
You will.
