What I'm sure of is that I don't want to not give it another try. That I miss him, and being with him. And I don't believe in living with regrets so I'm giving this a second chance.
Gliese snapped both my arms and abandoned me on a mountain miles away from camp just because I stalled on saying yes to raising her stupid bahari. [ Said very, very flatly. ] Any human in my position would have died a slow, painful, and miserable death. You think if Hibari challenges her there'll even be a body left to drag back?
Stepping into shadow? [This is something Niko has yet to encounter.] Yes I want to see it.
[Niko has no experience with this sort of thing. He doesn't even watch movies, so the idea of a light blade is pretty new. He's smart enough not to reach for it- lasers he does know about, and it's his closest guess.]
[It's definitely interesting, though. One of the few better things he's getting to see here.] How well can it cut?
Oh-- sure. [ That wouldn't be a problem, Red figured. If they were going to be at the same camp and all. ] No problem.
[ And there's a brief pause, but Red doesn't want to leave it at that. ] By the way, you said I could help out, right? I feel like I should [ after calling the nice guy scary and all ] and I don't have anything else to do. Did you say we need sticks? Or if there's anything else...
Do you think if she wanted you dead she would have left you living? She didn't want to kill you. She stopped short of it. Pretty sure Gliese knows exactly what would kill someone, and as long as they don't cross some lines, she won't end them.
[Optimus is an obvious exception, but for obvious reasons.]
Anyone can help. If you wanted to gather sticks that are... One sec.
[He gestures at his wrist, and a neon orange interface lights up before displaying the image of a slender, straight stick.]
Ones like this will help. You see a branch that's big and think and sturdy, that could help too because there's gonna be need for that once we work on a fence.
[Again.]
Otherwise, there's always food to gather. You find the bestiary on your blackglass yet?
[ When the image appears, Red leans in his head to examine the image closer, glancing to the device that it comes from as well. That's a pretty specific example.
As for the question, he pulls back. ] No. That's... this thing, right?
[ Wait a minute, he's getting this thing with a scramble through his pocket for where he'd deposited it when searching through his bag earlier. He pulls out the device. ]
Someone told me about it before, but I never got around to figuring it out. [ Technology is weird... ] There's really a bestiary on here? What else?
[It must be like showing a cave man fire sometimes, introducing people to new technology. Niko has been putting forth the effort to learn new things, new weapons, and whenever there's a course he jumps on the chance to watch. But he still looks at the knife like the enlightened ape he is, taking Garrus's arm so he can pull it closer to better look, but unwilling to touch near the thing himself just yet.]
[He at least doesn't manhandle the man for long. Instead being fairly gentle, and lets him go quick.]
This is probably a good call. It would not be my first choice for a shave.
Not that any razor really works for long with this stuff. [He scratches his own scruff as a joke.] So I still have some bolts left. I don't know who else does, but I could donate them for models.
[Slowly Garrus' mandibles flare out as Red has to search for his blackglass. Once it's out, Garrus is nodding. He pulls his own out so he can show Red the interface.]
There's messaging, a couple games, but... here.
[Garrus calls up the bestiary.]
Flora, that's plants, and fauna, animals. Tells you some of the things that are safe, some of the things to avoid. Not all of them. Use caution with anything you come across. But it's got some important entries.
[Garrus yields to Niko's touch, understanding the curiosity. Even with all of the fascinating weapons and abilities here, his omniblade stands out. Or it does to him. It's useful and a little flashy. Just how he likes it.]
Wise choice. As far as the bolts...
[He shakes his head after a moment.]
Maybe put something up on the network, saying that you have a few that can be used as models? Keep them in your possession, let people see and scan them. I've already got some diagrams that Aran and I put together, but they're on the omnitool so they're not really gonna help much.
[Garrus calls up the display and model they made, a flick of his hand making it spin slowly.]
I should do that. [He will. If he remembers. But then the omnitool is just as distracting, but he can see the things that he would want to do. He looks at the Blackglass, and then at the omnitool, and then back at the blackglass.]
Any way that we can make this something we can transfer between these? [He holds his up.] I don't know that they're compatible, but if it is already made once, making it again would be easier.
[It's a filler noise as he thinks, before starting to type into his omnitool.]
Not really sure. Most can network, most omnitools, I mean, but that hasn't functioned here. Might be a workaround, though.
[The model is expanded so that the notes on measurements are easily legible, and then Garrus starts searching his pack for his camera. Once he has it, he holds it out to Niko.]
Got this on Selena and it's compatible with the blackglass. Can you work it? Otherwise I'm gonna have a weird angle that could be too close for all of the specifics.
[ Did Red just miss Garrus's face move??? What a tragedy.
He watches how Garrus brings it up himself, and he's sure it's only by some luck that he's able to get it on to bring up the interface with how clumsy his hands feel holding the blackglass. The mention of games catches Red's interest (as--odd, for a word), but he follows to the bestiary.
For a piece of technology handed to him while assisting to destroy an entire planet, Red still can't help but be impressed when the page pops up for the fauna, a small 'wow' escaping him. ]
Is there a map too? [ He pokes a finger to the pop up screen. Can he get it to scroll... ] Can I go anywhere?
